5 Mistakes that Can Cost You Clients and Money
SuccessYou are in business to provide good services and earn good money. But over a period of time you might get a little careless and commit some mistakes that can cost you clients. This article will help you identify any such mistake that might be taking away your revenue and stuffing the pockets of your competitors.
Mistake 1
Not Paying Attention to What the Client has to Say
Listening patiently to your client is the first rule to attract new business and clients and keep the existing ones. If you don’t give your client a patient ear he surely will not be anywhere to be seen soon. Listening makes your client feel important and cared about. Make sure you listen to and REALLY understand what is it that your client is looking for, in terms of products and services. The more comfortable you are at listening, the better the experience will be for both of you.
Mistake 2
Not Paying Attention to Details
When designing or creating a customized product or service, you should always take care of details, since customized means-to create a unique thing to suit your clients’ specific needs.
Not caring for the details can annoy your client and you might lose him before you know.
When I was getting ready to launch avdhessharya.com, I hired a web designing company.I explained to them clearly what I want in terms of design, look and feel of the website, but it seemed they never cared for details. Despite clearly stating what I want they did what THEY thought I want.
The result was a pathetic website and an unsatisfied customer (me), who pretty soon hired another web designer. I lost money that I paid them as fee but their loss is greater than mine. They lost a genuine client and repeat business.
Mistake 3
Not Communicating Promptly
If your client is calling you to discuss something and you are not in a position to take the call, let him know and ask about the convenient time to call him back later. Once you have taken the time, do remember to call back.
There could be nothing worse than your client calling you back again after waiting for your call. Once in a while it’s ok to forget something, but forgetting to call back your client again and again shows that you are not interested in answering your clients queries. It’s a fatal mistake. If you won’t care about your client, your client is surely not going to care for you.
When I asked my web designing company why I didn’t get reply from their side despite many calls and sms, I got the reply that they were too busy to call me back. Hello! I am your client and you can’t give such an irresponsible answer to your client.
Mistake 4
Over-promising and Under-delivering
The basic rule of success in any business is under promise and over deliver. Give your clients more than they expect. Think of ways to go that extra mile. Getting something that your client was not expecting will create a long lasting wonderful impression and you are sure to get new business and referrals from your happy and satisfied client. just be careful not to promise something you can’t deliver.
Mistake 5
Not Following Up
Once your project is done and you get a happy client, don’t make the mistake of not following up. Stay in touch. Give your client a follow up call, after, some days and ask him if the product is doing well, if the service you provided is producing results and whether he needs further assistance or any help. This will make him feel good about doing business with you and will also strengthen the bond between your client and you.
Not following up is a disaster, it shows that you were interested in getting his money only. You should do whatever you can to earn his trust. The money will follow in form of repeat business and word of mouth advertising from his side.
P.S. – Being committed is crucial for your business. Commit to provide excellent services, products and support to your clients and watch your business prosper like anything.
