Dissatisfaction – The Catalyst to Growth

Life, Personal Development

Young Woman trying to find a new path

Satisfaction has been praised so much that we have started taking it as the ultimate thing. Being satisfied may sound good to your ears, but, reality is different. Satisfaction is good only if it has developed naturally inside you and not if you have been trying to force it.

All the great inventions, discoveries and adventures were born out of one and only one thing -Dissatisfaction.

Electricity was discovered because Thomas Edison was not satisfied with the darkness around him at night. Columbus discovered new land because he was not satisfied. He wanted to do something worthwhile.

Mobile phones, cars, new vaccines, cameras – anything you can think of has been invented or discovered because somebody was not satisfied with the then present. He revolted against the status quo. When others were discussing how bad things were and how nothing is possible, he was busy focusing on his dream – making things better and creating a brighter future for all of us.

We prefer staying satisfied with what we have and avoid trying something new-a new path, a new way of life, a new adventure – because we have been conditioned that way.

“Rukhi sukhi khai ke thanda paani pe, dekh parayi choopdi mat lalchave jee”

Be happy with what you have. Don’t think of great inventions, don’t look at bigger homes, more fulfilling careers and more wealth. You may get dissatisfied with what you have. You may start dreaming high, and dreams are what they are – just dreams.

They never come true. It’s better to stick with what you have even if it’s not something that your heart desire. (Zamin par raho, aasman mein udne ki koshish mat karo)

You have been conditioned to think in a certain way since childhood, and when you refuse to accept what you see around you, when you try to gain a new perspective – you are called ambitious, over smart, over confident etc.

There’s nothing new in it. It has been like this since ever. People who were dissatisfied with their present and wanted to create a better future were looked upon as stupid.

Don’t let this conditioning stop you from dreaming more. Do dream- better health, better fitness, better education, better living conditions, better neighborhood, better career and better finances.

Even when it appears that you are satisfied, there is dissatisfaction underneath that distorts your life. Your life energy gets stuck. The energy that could have been used in creating something beautiful starts making you sad and anxious.

You feel that something is wrong somewhere, and then you start cursing and blaming everyone – parents, society, the education system, politics, world economy and yes…GOD.

Nothing is wrong outside, it is there inside you. You have chosen the incorrect path. You are trying to feel satisfied while in reality you are not at all satisfied with your current situation.

How can you be satisfied with 2 Rotis when you are hungry for 4?

How can you be satisfied with a bachelor’s degree when your heart craves for a masters?

How can you be satisfied with a pathetic neighborhood when you see comfortable and clean neighborhood daily on your way back from office?

No, you can’t. You can only kill your dreams and pretend that you are happy with what you have. This is not going to help. The sooner you realize this, the better your life can be.

Youth is a time when you need to make choices – choices that will make or break your future. Decide what you want in life- phony and inauthentic satisfaction which leads to nowhere or true dissatisfaction that may create a better future for you and fellow human beings if you channelize it in the right direction.

Do you feel that it’s not the life you dreamed of? Do something about it.

Are you disgusted with your financial background? Improve it.

Do you feel trapped in your current life situation? Find ways to better it.

Adjust, adjust, adjust-and one day die adjusting.

Wake up!

Get dissatisfied and start finding the life you deserve.
